The Eheim 2217 Canister Filter has a compact pump coupled with a large volume canister for filter media. The filter is for aquariums up to 159 gallons with a maximum pump performance of 264 gph and delivery head of 7 foot and 6 inches. It is extremely quiet, durable and long lasting. It provides high pump output and effective use of filter media for fresh or saltwater aquariums.The "Full Space" design of Eheim's canister allows it to large amounts of filter media while making it more versatile. The filter comes complete with a safety hose-connection system to stop separation, all the filter medias needed to set up the filter, intake and outtake tubes, and double isolating valves. The Eheim 2217 is UL and CSA listed. EHFIMECH should be used at the bottom suction area. It provides mechanical filtration. Next is a Coarse Filter Pad. The next layer of EHFISUBSTRAT will act as the main biological filter medium. The substrate's high porousity is ideal for bacteria colonization and ensures unbeatable long term decomposition of Ammonia and Nitrites. Next is a Fine Filter Pad and a carbon pad. Chemi-pure can be used as a replacement for the Carbon Pad for chemical filtration (10oz per 50 gallons) for freshwater aquariums. It provides mechanical, biological and chemical filtration in a compact and virtually silent. Like all external bus filters, it is best if you have a locked cabinet in his stall tank where it can be kept out of sight. The manual leaves something to be desired. The illustrations are small and not always clear which picture goes to education. However, after classifying the different filter elements (coarse and fine filter mats, path of active charcoal, ceramic coarse mechanical filter, biological filter and substrate), is easy to assemble. The filter is supplied with inlet and outlet pipes, valves and quick release for easy cleaning. The filter stack should be mostly removed when replacing the filter pads, but is not complex, nor too long the results speak for themselves: clean water, a stable, prosperous fish. I'm very glad I bought the Eheim. April 4 people found this review helpful. For simpler is better Eriocaulon Classic Series filter housing is my choice for small to medium tanks. No heating element of luxury, ultraviolet sterilization or body fast priming pump separately - and that's a good think. You have an entry that goes to the bottom and an outlet at the top. Prepare to drive properly is the key, then follow the instructions - it is not difficult, especially if the entry is full of water. My unit comes with quick release adapters and media. The separate hose adapters work very well and quickly poured a bucket of water only when highlighted. Can I use this unit in my 58gal freshwater aquarium and clean it every three to six months. CONS: On 2217, there is a large o-ring that seals the border, after a number of years, you will need to replace up to about $ 15 or more. It was possible to seal with silicone grease before it goes to full power. The turbine shaft is ceramic and easy to break. If you do not have to clean the wheel or housing, they're not! It's worth the money, J. Helton I just bought a Eheim filter for my 125 gal. I already had an emperor 400 and a Fluval 404 on the tank, but wanted to replace the Fluval. I was not unimpressed with the filter held Eheim. It is very quiet. I can not even hear it running. The only way to tell it to run on water transportation are met. The only idea in the week, but I can tell already, is a difference. I plan to buy another. The only drawback is that the instructions difficult to follow. Mine was assembled with the light hood wire routed incorrectly, which required the removal of that section of the hood and re-fitting correctly. There is a notch in the hood convey the cords of the pump and light, but nothing like a hot wire. The cut is too small. The light does not work. It flickered a few times, and now nothing. No, I do not damage the wire. To remove the plastic cover in order to get the bulb, you put two plastic screw 1 / 4 turn.
